30 Before 30: Another Update

I have a list of 30 things I want to do before I turn 30. Since I just turned 26 and have crossed a few things off the list recently, I figured it was time for an update. Below you can see how I'm doing (so far I have 9/30 finished). To see my original list with lengthy explanations, look here and for my first update, look here. My cousin/best friend, Melissa, also has a list. Several things on our lists are the same, so we've been crossing things off together...which means more time with one of my favorite people in the world...which means this is even more fun. :) If I've done it, it's crossed out and the summary/explanation is written in red. If I need to get it done in the next 1435 days, it's not crossed out and the text is black.

1. Attend 10 NEW concerts
Done. Since I first published my list, I have seen Milo Greene, Dawes, The Lumineers, The Vespers, Rend Collective Experiment, The Black Keys, Paul McCartney (at Bonnaroo) Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, The Lone Bellow, Audrey Assad, and Jon McLaughlin headline shows. That's 11/10. I've also seen Family of the Year, Sara Watkins, Paper Bird, Good Old War, Jillian Edwards Chapman, Caleb (now Colony House), The Flaming Lips, and Shovels and Rope open shows. I imagine the number will be higher by the time my 30th birthday rolls around.

2. Learn how to crochet
Melissa said she'll teach me. So, soon. :)

3. Ride in a hot air balloon
Done. October 3, 2013. It. Was. Amazing.

4. Acquire a mandolin
Done, thanks to my dad.

5. Learn how to play the mandolin
Yeah. I have no excuse. I just haven't started trying to figure things out yet. One day.

6. Scrapbook (catch-up and continue)
So many pictures. So many supplies. So little motivation to drag it all out.

7. Watch all of the Star Wars movies
I need to rent them or find someone that will let me borrow them one Friday or Saturday and just have a marathon.

8. Make a t-shirt quilt out of all of my Berry shirts
I've pinned a lot of t-shirt quilt examples on Pinterest...and that's it...but one day I'm going to have to coolest t-shirt quilt.

9. Learn how to shoot a gun
This wouldn't be hard to do, considering I know people with guns that would probably be happy to show me a thing or two. However, I'd like to take an official class.

10. Blog on a semi-regular basis
Ha! Moving on...

11. Learn another language
I still really want to learn sign language. I don't think they have a Rosetta Stone for that one though...

12. Attend one of the major music festivals
Done. Bonnaroo, June 2013. Would go again in a heartbeat. Yeah, it's weird and wild...but it's fun to watch the crazies and hear so much music. Would love to go to some of the others...especially Newport Folk Fest.

13. Run a Half Marathon
13. Run a 5K
As I've thought about it, I have no desire to run that far. Temporary moment of insanity. Melissa and I are going to do a 5K and that will be plenty. Maybe if we get ambitious, we'll do two.

14. Cross Country Road Trip
Given that I have a job, my hope is that I can just visit some major cities around the U.S. (Chicago, Seattle, Washington D.C., NYC [which is #15] somewhere in California and Texas, etc.) and see the country...even if I don't see it by driving around it for several weeks.

15. Trip to New York City
I've been to NYC twice...but I'd love to go with a smaller group (I've gone with a choir and a class, big groups both times) of close friends and do what we want to do and actually take some time instead of being super rushed the entire time.

16. Procure a passport
Done.
17. Go overseas
18. Mission trip
Killed two birds with one stone March 7-17 when I traveled to Uganda with Palmetto Medical Initiative

19. Read the Bible entirely through in at least 5 translations
I've started and gotten off track several times. Hopefully, now that I'm back from Africa, I can dive into this one and stay on track. I read the English Standard Version all the way through in seminary...so I think the 5 translations I'd like to do to complete this goal are: The Message, New International Version, King James Version, Common English Bible, and perhaps the New Living Translation or the New Revised Standard Version.

20. Read the entire Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis
Done. Loved them. Will probably read them again.

21. Read the books on my shelf and on my Kindle that I have not read
I keep buying books, so maybe this one should just simply be "Read...as much as possible." :)

22. Read the Lord of the Rings trilogy
In my free time...

23. Read the last Harry Potter book
It's sitting on my shelf, collecting dust. I'll get to it...eventually.

24. Learn how to confidently cook 10 meals
I'm really not sure what I want to cook and it's not like I don't eat and I can follow a recipe...but I'd still like to know how to fix a few things. However, the prep work, wait time, and clean up don't seem worth it most of the time. :)

25. Learn how to intelligently use my DSLR camera (no automatic setting!)
Every time a class is offered, I have a conflict.

26. Learn how to use my photo editing software
Haven't even opened the program on my computer since...I don't even remember.

27. Sponsor a child through Compassion International
Done. November 24, 2013 at the Rend Collective Concert. My Compassion kid is from Uganda and was born March 6 (2 days after my birthday), 1999 (the year Brandon was born). I got my first letter from him a few weeks ago.
A part of this item was also donating the same amount of money each month to a local organization to help children in my community. That's still a part of my plan and I'll start soon...I've done some research and at this point, I think each month I may donate to a different local organization. :)

28. Be more content in all situations
29.  Express gratitude more often
30. Give more grace to all people
My three "can't really measure the results" items on my list. Still working on them...it's a process...and some are easier than others. I don't know that these will ever be crossed off.

31. Live with Melissa
We've decided that to get everything on our lists done, we need to live together. She said it should be on our list...so here it is. :)
